So far, you’ve met Rachel Miller and Beau Samuels. Now, let’s meet Nadine Miller–the lady that makes it all happen.
Nadine Miller is based on the character of Naomi in the story of Ruth. As the matriarch of the family, Nadine’s responsible for many things, but she makes taking care of the recently-widowed Rachel a priority.
Nadine is kind and thoughtful, known in the community for always being one of the first to show up with a casserole (or, better yet, one of her trademark pies) when anyone in the family is sick or grieving. She loves baking–so much so that she’d love to one day open a shop on her own. Unfortunately, the time just never has seemed right for self-indulgence.
She’s a down-to-earth sort of woman, not afraid to pull on boots and gloves and jump right in the middle of a mess. In other words, Nadine’s the quintessential Southern lady–polished when she needs to be, but definitely capable of getting dirty.
When her husband and twin sons die, Nadine has a choice to make. She can allow herself to collapse into grief, or she can take this opportunity to guide her daughter-in-law–and maybe herself–toward a new hope of happiness.
A Brief Synopsis:
BEAU SAMUELS has everything he could want from life—everything except the woman he loves. He carries a torch for his best friend’s wife, but his noble heart will not allow him to come between what God has joined together.
RACHEL MILLER has no idea of his attraction; she’s too preoccupied with her joy at leaving her orphaned childhood behind for a life at the center of her new family and settling down in the rolling hills of Kentucky for a long and happy marriage to David, her very own Prince Charming.
Rachel’s storybook life takes a dramatic turn when her father-in-law, Eli, succumbs to a brutal heart attack. Days later, her husband and brother-in-law are killed in a horrific traffic accident. Her nascent faith falters as she blames God for ripping her happiness away. But NADINE MILLER, her mother-in-law, believes that God has a plan. She encourages Rachel to work through their shared grief and understand what He has in store.
Will Rachel be able to move past her pain and face her uncertain future? Will Beau be able to convince Rachel to open her heart again? Only time will tell…
